The Air Scrubber coupled with a 5” pleated air filter is the best option for improved indoor air quality. The wider air filter has a lot more surface area to filter the air without greatly restricting air flow. The air filter removes particulate material from the air stream. And the Air Scrubber purifies the air and also the surfaces within the home.

Improving Indoor Air Quality
The air quality of our indoor home environment can have more harmful impurities than outdoor air. Some of the reasons for this involve the use of synthetic building materials used in newer home construction. This is also true of newer fabrics, furnishings, and appliances. Many of these newer synthetic products can release vapors into the home environment. Newer homes are also sealed better than homes built years ago. This means that there is less fresh air introduced into the home. These factors have resulted in diminished indoor air quality in our homes today. And businesses are similarly affected. Affected home and business occupants can experience adverse symptoms associated with poor air quality. These symptoms can include headaches, eye irritation, fatigue, nose and throat irritation, skin rashes, confusion, and dizziness.
Volatile Organic Compounds and Other Contaminants
Many of the paints, adhesives, and the array of synthetic materials used in home building and renovation can release fumes and VOCs. VOCs are volatile organic compounds that are released from these materials.
In addition, moisture infiltration into the home can encourage the growth of biological agents and other allergens. If anyone smokes in the home, then tobacco smoke will greatly contribute to poor indoor air quality. The use of harsh chemical cleaning agents can also affect indoor air quality. As can pets and dirt brought in from outside.
The Air Scrubber Sanitizes Indoor Air and Surfaces
The Air Scrubber is the solution! This duct mounted device substantially reduces odors, visible smoke, allergens, and microbes in the air. And the Air Scrubber also reduces microbial populations on your home’s surfaces. The Air Scrubber improves indoor air quality through the use of a special ultraviolet light and a photo catalytic material on a honeycomb medium. The device creates a number of friendly oxidizers that are carried through your home’s ventilation system that sanitize the air. These friendly oxidizers circulate through your home and sanitize any microbial agents present on home surfaces. In this way, the Air Scrubber continuously protects and purifies the air and attacks contaminants on all surfaces.
Underlying Technology Developed For NASA Space Program
The technology behind the Air Scrubber was developed to help astronauts grow fruits and vegetables on space stations. It was of particular concern to find a way to prevent plants from aging prematurely in the space station environment. The gas ethylene is naturally released by plants to hasten ripening. Scientists discovered that ethylene can induce decay when it is allowed to build up in the sealed space craft environment. The technology behind the Air Scrubber was invented to breakdown the ethylene to help preserve the plants on space stations. The device was known as an ethylene scrubber, hence the current Air Scrubber name.
The original space application led to technology transfer into the Air Scrubber which is installed in home HVAC ducting to improve indoor air quality. In the home application, the Air Scrubber helps to decontaminate the air by producing molecules that disseminate into the home environment, killing pathogens in the air and on surfaces.

Air Scrubber Takes On Skunk in Actual Customer Testimonial
One of the customer testimonials on the Aerus Air Scrubber website had a spotted skunk enter the home HVAC system and really reek havoc. The animal was electrocuted on the furnace electric heating coils. The smell skunk and burned animal fur permeated the entire residence. The desperate homeowner agreed to the responding service technician recommendation to install an Air Scrubber. The homeowner happily reported amazing results. After a few days with the Air Scrubber, all trace of the odiferous animal were completely gone.
The actual customer testimonial by the grateful homeowner is available here as a pdf. Note that this customer testimonial was not from one of Accurate Heating & Cooling’s customers. However, if you have a similar experience, please let us know!
According to the UNL Extension website, both the spotted skunk and the striped skunk are native to eastern Nebraska. While I have yet to see a spotted skunk here in Omaha, finding either assuming the position in the photo below would be bad news. And it would definitely be worse to have one show up in one of our customer’s home HVAC system. If it happens to you, get ahold of us and we will come out and install an Air Scrubber for you.
Our Personal Testimonials
Our Service and Install Manager Kelly has installed an Air Scrubber in his home as well. He has a couple of very large dogs in his home. In his own words, he is happy to report that the Air Scrubber has eliminated any wet dog smell from the residence.
Since I installed an Air Scrubber in my home in the Spring of 2019, my seasonal allergies have almost vanished. And the air in the home has a faint fresh spring fragrance. I used to take a small over the counter allergy pill daily as well as use a fluticasone propionate containing nasal allergy spray almost daily. This was supplemented with occasional over the counter cold and flue type sinus medication as needed. My experience with these allergy medications was that the symptoms from the medications were almost as bad as the allergy symptoms. After installing the Air Scrubber this spring, I have eliminated all of the allergy medication with the exception of the daily over the counter small white allergy pill. And my plan is to try cutting that last allergy pill out as well if I make it a whole year being allergy symptom free.
Of course we are not qualified to give any medical advice. But this is our personal experience with the Air Scrubber.
